Davina Sheffield, who was at one time a partner of King Charles and affectionately referred to as his “soulmate”, has died aged 75. She passed away on 2 September following a brief illness, according to a family announcement.
Her three sons, Thomas, William and Henry, confirmed her death and revealed that a celebration of life service will be held on 2 November.
Davina and Charles began dating in 1976, a relationship noted for its significance at the time, leading to speculation she might one day become queen. Royal commentators frequently described her as Charles’s “soulmate” during that period. The couple was often seen attending public events together, highlighting the prominence of their courtship.

As Prince of Wales, Charles invited Davina as his companion to a wedding and introduced her to the Royal Family at Balmoral, including the Queen Mother. She was also seen seated next to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at an equestrian event.
However, the relationship ended following revelations from Davina’s former partner, powerboat racer James Beard, who disclosed that she had shared a previous “love nest”. At the time, royal conventions required the heir to the throne to marry an “unblemished” bride, which led to the swift conclusion of their romance.
Charles went on to marry Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1981, while Davina married Jonathan Morley five months later.
Davina Sheffield was the granddaughter of the first Lord McGowan, former chairman of Imperial Chemical Industries. She was also a cousin of Samantha Cameron, wife of former Prime Minister David Cameron.
