Forest of Dean Marathoner to Run Seven Marathons in Seven Days from Lydney to London

Chris Fordham, a 42-year-old airline pilot from the Forest of Dean, is preparing for an ambitious marathon challenge this spring: running seven marathons in seven consecutive days. Setting off from his hometown of Lydney on April 20, Chris will cover approximately 157 miles, culminating in his participation in the London Marathon on April 26.

This remarkable endeavor, named the Long Run for Mental Health, is a tribute to a friend Chris lost to suicide last year. With a growing JustGiving fundraising total nearing £3,800 for Samaritans, Chris is motivated by both the cause and the generous support from the community.

Having completed the London Marathon in 2017 with a time of 3 hours 53 minutes, Chris describes it as “the hardest and most rewarding experience” of his life. Although daunted by the increased challenge, he remains excited and confident in his preparation. His primary aim is not to beat his previous time but to complete the grueling week injury-free and maintain mental resilience.

Chris reflects on his journey into long-distance running: before 2017, the longest race he’d attempted was a half marathon in his twenties. Now, with this new challenge, he confronts the mental and physical demands of back-to-back marathons. “It’s 99% mental,” he explains. “While your body can keep going, it’s your mind that will tell you to stop.”

With a carefully planned schedule and a strong support network, Chris hopes to inspire others and raise vital awareness around mental health. As he gears up to embark on this extraordinary feat, Chris embodies determination, resilience, and the power of community support.
