Forest Green Rovers Set to Sign Buxton Midfielder Tate Campbell

Forest Green Rovers are on the verge of signing Buxton midfielder Tate Campbell, with the clubs having agreed on a transfer fee pending a medical examination.

Campbell, a product of the Birmingham City academy, has gained valuable experience through loan spells at Bromley and made a brief Championship appearance for Birmingham City before joining Hereford in 2024. Now 23 years old, the defensive midfielder has showcased his abilities in the National League North this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 23 appearances. Notably, he also found the net in Buxton’s FA Cup first-round victory over Chatham Town.

Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage expressed optimism about the deal: “A fee has been agreed with Buxton, subject to a medical, which we hope will be passed. Buxton have been fantastic throughout the negotiations. Our Northern scout, Peter Band, has watched Tate multiple times and encouraged us to pursue him.”

Savage added, “I had tried to sign Tate for Macclesfield before he moved to Buxton. The fee is settled, the paperwork is complete, and we hope to announce him as a Forest Green player by Wednesday or Thursday.”

Standing at 5ft 10in, Campbell is known for his defensive midfield role, effectively shielding the back four. He previously visited Gloucestershire this season during the FA Cup second round, when Buxton faced a 6-2 defeat to Cheltenham Town.

His presence at The New Lawn on Tuesday evening was noted ahead of Forest Green’s 4-2 National League victory over Woking, signaling that the transfer could soon be finalized.
