Forest Green Rovers Secure Goalkeeper Luke McNicholas from Wrexham

Forest Green Rovers have strengthened their squad by signing 25-year-old goalkeeper Luke McNicholas on a permanent deal from Wrexham.

McNicholas showcased his abilities with three EFL Trophy starts for Wrexham, including a clean-sheet debut in a 3-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra. Last season, he also spent time on loan at Rochdale. Although an injury shortened his loan stint, McNicholas impressed during his time in the National League, keeping six clean sheets in just nine appearances — including a goalless draw at the Crown Oil Arena.

Standing at 6ft 3in, the County Mayo native began his professional career at Sligo Rovers. During his time there, he gained valuable experience on loan spells at Finn Harps and Cliftonville before earning opportunities to showcase his talent at Sligo in 2022.

Joining Forest Green Rovers under the management of Robbie Savage, McNicholas follows recent signings Yahaya Bamba, Laurent Mendy, Tre Pemberton, and Neil Kengni. His arrival adds vital depth to the goalkeeping department, alongside fellow Irishman Fiachra Pagel, further bolstering the squad’s options between the posts.
