Forest Green Rovers Rally to Secure 3-2 Victory Over Halifax Town

Forest Green Rovers showcased resilience and determination as they overturned a first-half deficit to claim a 3-2 victory against Halifax Town in their season opener at The New Lawn.

After a slow start, the hosts found themselves behind when Halifax capitalised on early chances, with Will Flint scoring from a close-range effort inside the six-yard box just nine minutes into the match.

Making his professional debut, Emeka Obi faced challenges throughout the game and was ultimately forced off due to injury shortly before halftime. However, the Rovers made a strong response immediately after the break.

Debutant Filozofe Mabete, who earned Man of the Match honours, opened Forest Green’s account with a well-placed header that left the goalkeeper stranded. Ten minutes later, Sean Etaluku showcased his skill, dribbling in from the right before curling a powerful shot into the top left corner, turning the tide in the hosts’ favour.

The lead was sealed by Forest Green’s newly appointed club captain for the 2026/27 season, Kyle McAllister, who struck from the edge of the penalty area. Despite a touch from Halifax keeper True Grant, McAllister’s goal found the net, putting the visitors firmly on the back foot.

In the dying moments, Zak Gilsenan delivered a stunning free-kick in the 95th minute, offering a consolation goal for Halifax. However, the referee quickly brought the game to a close shortly after, confirming Forest Green’s first win of the campaign.

Forest Green Rovers, who have been active in the transfer market with nine new signings this summer and six making starts today, will be encouraged by this spirited performance as they build momentum for the season ahead.
