Robbie Savage has firmly dismissed the rumours linking him to the vacant managerial role at Blackburn Rovers, labeling them as “pure speculation.” The former Wales international, now 51, emphasized his dedication to his current role at Forest Green Rovers, a club competing in the National League.
Having played over 100 games for Blackburn between 2005 and 2008 before moving to Derby County, Savage was considered a leading candidate by bookmakers to replace Valerien Ismael at Ewood Park. Ismael recently resigned after a challenging season, with Blackburn struggling near the bottom of the Championship. However, a recent 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday under interim boss Damien Johnson has temporarily lifted the team out of the relegation zone.
Savage, who took charge of Forest Green Rovers last July, arrived following a successful spell at Macclesfield Town, where he led them to promotion to the National League North in his first season as head coach. Currently, Forest Green stands fourth in the National League, nine points shy of the top position, despite having played more games than their closest competitors.

Addressing the speculation, Savage stated, “It’s purely speculation. I loved my time at Blackburn—it’s a brilliant football club—but these rumours will just continue with different names tomorrow.”
He added, “I have a great relationship with the Forest Green board, and we’re on an exciting journey and project here. I’m committed to seeing it through. There’s absolutely nothing for the fans to worry about.”
