Forest Green Rovers secured a 1-0 victory against National League newcomers Hornchurch in their inaugural encounter. The match’s only goal arrived early, in the eighth minute, when Sean Etaluku impressed down the left flank, delivering a precise cross to striker Ricardo Rees. Rees' shot took a slight deflection on its way into the net, putting Forest Green ahead.
As the game progressed, Hornchurch mounted a late challenge, nearly equalising in the 87th minute. Forest Green’s goalkeeper, Ethan Ross, produced an excellent save to deny Sam Ling, maintaining his team’s lead. At the other end, Hornchurch’s goalkeeper Arthur Nasta also showcased his skills with a notable stop.
Despite Hornchurch’s strong form, having won four of their last five matches before this game, Forest Green held firm to claim the three points in this closely contested encounter.
