Forest Green Rovers Drop Points After Late Equaliser in 1-1 Draw at Sutton United

Forest Green Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw away at Sutton United at the VBS Community Stadium on Saturday after conceding a last-minute goal that cost them crucial points.

The Rovers took an early lead in the 20th minute when Ricardo Rees was fouled in the box, earning his team a penalty. McAllister calmly converted from the spot, placing the ball into the bottom right corner with his left foot.

However, the match took a dramatic turn when Rees escaped a red card following a reckless challenge just before the half-hour mark. But the pressure mounted, and he was subsequently sent off after receiving a second yellow for handling the ball inside the Sutton area moments later before scoring.

Sutton United pressed hard throughout the second half, exploiting the numerical advantage. Despite Forest Green’s defense holding initial attempts, the hosts finally leveled the score in the 89th minute through a scrappy finish by Jayden Harris.

Forest Green nearly restored their lead moments earlier when Tom Knowles had a clear chance to set up a teammate, but failed to capitalize. The game’s tension was further heightened by disciplinary issues; manager Robbie Savage was cautioned for his protests regarding Rees’s sending-off, and newly appointed coach Josh Bowen was dismissed in injury time.
