Forest Green Rovers have addressed recent false claims that a fan was removed from the stadium for eating a bacon sandwich during their match against Morecambe FC.
The club, widely known for its vegan ethos, issued a statement following rumours that circulated online after a video showed two stewards escorting a man out of the stands during the final game of the season at The New Lawn, which ended in a 5-0 victory for Forest Green Rovers.
The so-called ‘bacon buttygate’ sparked widespread criticism, with some rival fans accusing the club of overreacting due to its vegan principles. However, Forest Green Rovers quickly clarified the situation.

In their official statement, the club explained: “We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday. Contrary to social media opinion, the ejection was not related to a bacon sandwich but was due to a fan’s excessive behaviour. After repeated warnings, the stewards had no choice but to remove him from the stadium.”
Forest Green Rovers dominated the match on the last day of the regular season and will now face Boreham Wood in the play-off eliminator on Wednesday evening, with the winner advancing to face Carlisle United on Sunday afternoon.
Manager Robbie Savage commented on the team’s performance: “Today was our day, and it could have been more; we were brilliant.”
