Football: Southern, Hellenic, County, Northern Senior League round-ups plus women’s review

Hartpury continued their impressive form in the Southern League Division One South with a 2-0 win against play-off contenders Shaftesbury. Goals from Noah Coates and Louis Manning extended Hartpury’s unbeaten run to five matches.

The match saw early chances for Billy Osborn and Vanylson Silva before Coates opened the scoring in the 18th minute by capitalizing on a defensive error at the back post from a Sol Kent cross. Nathan Jenkins tested the keeper twice with long-range efforts but could not add to the scoreline.

Shaftesbury started the second half strongly, with Lewis Morgan volleying wide, but Hartpury doubled their lead on 60 minutes as Manning cleverly lobbed the goalkeeper following a through ball from Osborn.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Jack Watts shone with a brace to help Cinderford Town secure a 3-2 victory over Mangotsfield United. Kian Davies added the third goal as Cinderford moved into the top ten. Meanwhile, Slimbridge endured a heavy 4-0 defeat at Hallen, trailing leaders Droitwich Spa by six points but retaining games in hand.

Play-off hopefuls Cirencester Town faced a setback, losing 2-0 to Pershore Town, with Jamie Lucas and Tino Shumba scoring, while Cirencester’s Ed Scott received a red card. Tuffley Rovers edged Corsham Town 3-2 thanks to Karnell Chambers’ decisive second-half goal.

Thornbury Town claimed a 2-1 win at Highworth Town, with Henry Dickinson scoring the winner after Ash Ozua initially gave Thornbury the lead. Royal Wootton Bassett Town defeated Lydney Town 3-0, while Stonehouse Town drew 1-1 with Cheltenham Saracens, preserving their play-off position.

Shortwood United fell into the relegation zone following a 2-1 defeat at Bewdley Town. Cinderford Town’s Gloucestershire FA Trophy game with Cheltenham Saracens was postponed, with Cinderford withdrawing from the competition.

In the County League, top two teams Sharpness and Tewkesbury Town both recorded 7-0 victories, maintaining their strong season starts. Sharpness triumphed over Chalford with a notable performance from Keiran Bennett and Alfie Jones, both netting hat-tricks. Tewkesbury overwhelmed Stoke Gifford SGS United, with Scott Jordan, Jamie Goodwin, and others contributing in a dominant display.

Filton Athletic strengthened their third-place position with a 5-0 win against Broadwell Amateurs, while Frampton United settled for a goalless draw with Wick. Ruardean Hill Rangers secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Bishop’s Cleeve Development despite a red card to Charlie Mason.

Tuesday night fixtures saw Reegan Messenger net a hat-trick as Bishop’s Cleeve Development defeated Quedgeley Wanderers 4-3. Toby Summers also scored a hat-trick for Longlevens Reserves in a 5-1 win over Stonehouse Town Reserves. Whaddon United and Brockworth Albion played out a goalless draw, while Dursley Town drew 1-1 with English Bicknor.

Hat-tricks highlighted other fixtures, including Jack Andrews’ three goals in Bibury’s 5-3 victory at Bredon and Declan Morley-Lyne’s treble in Lydney Town Reserves’ 6-3 win against Cheltenham Civil Service. Painswick’s Dave Creed led another three-goal haul in their 7-2 thrashing of Fintan.

In the Northern Senior League Division Two, Harrow Hill recorded a 2-1 win over Viney St Swithins, while Wickwar Wanderers edged Winchcombe Town 1-0. Mushet & Coalway secured a 2-0 victory over Frampton United Reserves.

The South West Women’s League saw Gloucester City and Cirencester Town advance in their divisional cups. Gloucester City dominated Bishop’s Lydeard 4-0 with two goals each from Caitlin Hale and Sachi Kaneko-Grun, setting up a semi-final against Torquay United. Cirencester Town defeated Wells City 4-1, with goals distributed among Sarah Candy, Lani Dickinson, Shannon King, and Annie Martin.

Lily Ryan impressed with five goals as Dursley Town thrashed Iron Action 9-0 in the Gloucestershire County League Division One. Bishop’s Cleeve claimed a 5-1 win over Olveston United, while Cheltenham Saracens defeated Southmead 3-0, highlighted by Sophie Sharpe’s brace.

Hartpury drew 1-1 with Bristol & West, sitting second in their division. Leaders Cheltenham Civil Service won 3-1 against Ellwood, with Gemma Riley, Jessica Brown, and Harmony Wheeler scoring. City of Gloucester moved into second place with a 3-1 victory over Newent Town.

In Division Three, lowly Winchcombe Town drew 2-2 with Bristol Ladies Union. Berkeley Town narrowly lost 4-3 to Thornbury Town in Division Four. Lydney Town received a walkover win against Southmead Reserves, maintaining third place in the table.
