Football: Southern, Hellenic, County, Northern Senior and Women’s Leagues Round-Ups

Bishop’s Cleeve were held to a 1-1 draw at Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday, with Noah Rubio’s first goal for the club securing only a point. The Mitres slipped out of the play-off positions once again on goal difference, as Shaftesbury claimed their spot.

Cleeve keeper Lewis Clayton made two early saves, and Ross Langworthy’s fierce volley in the 24th minute forced a good save. Two minutes later, after being fouled, Noah Rubio calmly curled the ball into the top right corner, giving Cleeve a 1-0 lead.

Before halftime, Jay Malshanskyj beat the keeper to the ball but could not find the angle to score. However, Charlie White equalised for Bristol Manor Farm after a free-kick lapse by Cleeve, who had to settle for a point.

Hartpury remain four points behind Cleeve in seventh place, extending their unbeaten run to eight games with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brixham. Vanylson Silva scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute with a low 20-yard strike that deflected slightly on its way in.

Brixham fought to equalise but were denied by strong blocks from Sol Kent, Jesse Aldridge, and Josh Roney, who also produced a crucial goal-line clearance late on. The match ended with both sides down to ten players after late red cards.

Slimbridge kept their Hellenic League title hopes alive by scoring two stoppage-time goals to beat Royal Wootton Bassett 2-1 in midweek. Jack W Smith’s 92nd-minute equaliser was followed by an own goal three minutes later, moving Slimbridge to third place, just a point behind leaders Roman Glass St George and Worcester Raiders.

In other matches, Fairford Town rallied to defeat Cinderford Town 2-1. Patrick Otoo-Mensah and James Grieve scored late winners in a previous 2-0 victory over Cribbs. Tuffley Rovers climbed closer to the play-offs with a 3-2 win over Worcester Raiders, thanks to Kieran Alder’s winning goal.

Lydney Town dropped into the bottom two after defeats to Hallen and Mangotsfield United, while Longlevens claimed a 4-2 victory over Pershore Town, powered by Fin Gwillim and Lewis Driscoll’s goals. Stonehouse Town strengthened their play-off bid with a 4-2 win at Carterton, and Shortwood United remain in the relegation zone following a 2-1 loss to Chipping Sodbury Town.

In cup action, Newent Town reached the semi-finals of the supplementary cup with a 2-1 win over Marlow Reserves. Tewkesbury Town claimed a narrow 3-2 victory over Wick in the County League, narrowing the lead of league leaders Sharpness.

Frampton United secured a 2-0 win at Quedgeley Wanderers to maintain fourth place, while Chalford defeated Henbury & Rockleaze 2-0. Tytherington Rocks suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Stoke Gifford SGS United after taking the early lead.

In the Northern Senior League, Longlevens Reserves maintained an unbeaten record with a 5-0 win over Falcons, while Whaddon United and Dursley Town also enjoyed strong results. English Bicknor edged Bibury 1-0, and Stonehouse Town Reserves climbed with a 3-1 win over Cheltenham Civil Service.

Hardwicke closed the gap on Division Two leaders Smiths Barometrics with a 1-0 win at Wickwar Wanderers. Harrow Hill fell 4-2 to Winchcombe Town, and Bream Amateurs secured a 3-0 victory over Mitcheldean.

WOMEN’S ROUND-UP

Gloucester City’s Sachiko Kaneko-Grun scored a hat-trick in a thrilling 5-3 South West Women’s League Premier Division win at Poole Town, completing a city double over the Dorset side. Maggie Neall and Lucabella Davis also scored.

City reserves edged Mangotsfield United 1-0, while Cirencester Town fell 3-1 to Bitton with Jasmine Payne netting. Hartpury advanced to the County Women’s League Cup semi-finals with a 5-0 win over Newent Town, led by Keeley Borkowski’s two goals.

Dursley Town exited the cup on penalties to Olveston United after a 2-2 draw, and Bishop’s Cleeve lost 3-1 against Bristol & West. In the Sue Henson-Green Cup, Bishop’s Cleeve Development and Lydney Town secured wins to progress, with Mitcheldean SC advancing via walkover.

Cheltenham Civil Service extended their Division Two lead with a 9-0 thrashing of Downend Flyers Reserves, highlighted by Gemma Riley’s four goals. City of Gloucester trounced Cinderford Town 9-2, powered by hat-tricks from Kacie Anderson and Yazmin Summers.

Andoversford climbed to fourth in Division Three with a 2-1 win over Tuffley Rovers, while Berkeley Town defeated Thornbury Town 3-1 in Division Four.
