Football: Southern, Hellenic, County and Northern Senior League round-ups, plus women’s football review

Toby Holland scored twice as Bishop’s Cleeve defeated Didcot Town 2-0 in Southern League Division One South at Kayte Lane on Tuesday night, securing six points from two matches against Didcot this season. The first goal came from an early penalty after Jack Watts was fouled in the box by JP Nyuysemo, with Holland confidently converting from the spot. Just before halftime, a free-kick won by Devanti Mcinerney allowed Holland to sneak a second goal past goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell.

Bishop’s Cleeve continued their winning streak with a dominant 6-1 victory at home against Brixham on Saturday. After a 1-1 halftime scoreline, manager Paul Collicutt motivated the team to pull away after the break with goals from Ben McLean, Ross Langworthy, Curtis Jemmett-Hutson, Josh Nelmes, and an own goal by Ryan Beattie.

In other Southern League news, Hartpury suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bristol Manor Farm, with the winning goal coming early from Nathan Goodwin-Worrell. Meanwhile, Evesham United earned a late penalty to draw 1-1 with Bracknell Town, before securing a 4-1 win over Dorchester Town thanks to two late goals from Levi Steele.

Lydney Town climbed out of the Hellenic League Premier Division relegation zone with wins against Hallen (3-1) and Corsham Town (2-0), while Slimbridge moved up to second place after victories over Hereford Pegasus and Westfields. Fairford Town edged closer to the play-offs with a 1-0 win at Pershore Town and a draw with Tuffley Rovers.

Cirencester Town and Longlevens also remain strong contenders for play-off positions, with Cirencester thrashing Droitwich Spa 5-1 and Longlevens securing a late 1-0 victory at Mangotsfield United. Thornbury Town recorded two 1-1 draws, and Cinderford Town had a goalless draw with Pershore Town.

In Division One, Shortwood United won 1-0 at Woodford United courtesy of Oli Whelan’s late strike. Newent Town triumphed 3-1 over Chipping Sodbury Town, Brimscombe & Thrupp fought back for a 2-2 draw with Clanfield 85, and Cheltenham Saracens suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat against Wantage Town.

Tuffley recovered in the Floodlit Cup with a 3-2 win over Shortwood, while Cinderford lost on penalties to Alcester Town after a 2-2 draw. Sharpness maintain their top spot in the County League after a 5-1 victory against Cribbs Reserves, with Tewkesbury Town, Quedgeley Wanderers, and Frampton United also fighting near the summit.

In the Northern Senior League, Whaddon United top Division One following a 2-0 win at Gala Wilton. Tredworth Tigers celebrated a 5-0 victory over Lydney Town Reserves, and Brockworth Albion won 4-2 at Stonehouse Town Reserves. Hardwicke leads Division Two, and Barnwood United posted a 5-0 win against Mitcheldean.

The GFA Senior Amateur Cup saw English Bicknor win 3-2 at Down Ampney, and Mushet & Coalway edged Bream Amateurs 4-1.

WOMEN’S ROUND-UP

The Cheltenham Town women’s FA Cup journey ended with a 4-0 loss to Lewes. Gloucester City delivered a comprehensive 6-0 win over Saltash United, highlighted by a hat-trick from Sachi Kaneko-Grun. Forest Green Rovers battled to a 2-2 draw with AEK Boco.

Cirencester Town progressed in the GFA Women’s Trophy with a 6-3 win against Hartpury, featuring a four-goal haul from Annie Martin. Cheltenham Town Reserves won narrowly against Gloucester City Reserves with a 1-0 scoreline, while City of Gloucester crushed Lydney Town Youth 7-1 in the GFA Challenge Cup.

In local league action, Newent Town and Kingswood secured victories with standout individual performances, including Dyana Peacey’s four goals for Kingswood. Bishop’s Cleeve Development won 4-1 at Winchcombe Town, while other Division matches featured competitive results with teams like Mitcheldean and Fry Club solidifying their positions.
