Cirencester Town began their Hellenic League Premier Division season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Tuffley Rovers, thanks to a brace from Harlie Price.
The hosts started strongly and early on had a penalty appeal denied. Raiyan Ahmed’s inventive play set up Kieran Alder, who put Tuffley ahead after 12 minutes. Cirencester gradually found their rhythm, and just before half-time Price equalised with an impressive 30-yard strike. Moments later, Ben Lodge’s delivery into the Tuffley penalty area sparked a scramble culminating in Price scoring again to give Cirencester the lead at the interval.
The second half saw end-to-end action dwindle as fatigue set in, but Tuffley’s goalkeeper Luke Merchant was kept busy. Cirencester’s Adam Corcoran famously cleared off the line to deny Preston Mason, and an Ed Scott header from a corner narrowly missed.
