Flood Risk in Gloucestershire Anticipated During High Tides

Gloucestershire faces potential flooding this weekend due to high tides along the River Wye. The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert indicating possible flooding from Friday evening, November 7, through Saturday morning, November 8. The areas at risk stretch from Coleford in the Forest of Dean to Chepstow on the Wales border.

Flooding is expected to impact low-lying lands and roads adjacent to the Wye Estuary, particularly between Redbrook and Chepstow. Tide levels are predicted to peak between 7.4m and 7.7m at Avonmouth Portbury on Friday evening, with Newport seeing levels between 6.9m and 7.2m. On Saturday morning, tides will peak around 7.3m to 7.6m at Avonmouth Portbury and 6.8m to 7.1m at Newport, roughly between 8am and 9am.

The Environment Agency is actively monitoring conditions and strongly advises people to avoid walking, cycling, or driving through floodwater due to safety risks.
