The Environment Agency has issued multiple flood alerts across Gloucestershire as rivers swell due to persistent heavy rainfall. The alerts coincide with a Met Office severe weather warning in effect on Saturday, November 29, 2025, signaling the potential for significant rain.
Rising water levels in the Forest of Dean, particularly along the River Lyd and Cinderford Brook, have prompted warnings for possible flooding. The Environment Agency states: “River levels are currently rising due to overnight rainfall. Flooding is possible throughout today, Saturday, 29 November 2025.”
Low-lying areas and roads near the rivers—from Gloucester to Chepstow—are especially vulnerable, including communities such as Westbury and Lydney. Residents are advised to avoid low-lying footpaths and bridges close to local waterways, as the situation is being closely monitored.

In addition, a flood alert has been issued for the River Wye in Herefordshire, affecting areas from Hay-on-Wye to Ross-on-Wye near the Gloucestershire border. The Environment Agency cautions that “rising river levels today may lead to flooding, potentially impacting low-lying land and roads along the River Wye.” Areas possibly affected include the A438 corridor between Letton & Willersey, Byford, Bredwardine, and Hereford, where road closures and diversions may occur.
Alongside today’s warnings, the Met Office has also issued a separate rain warning for Monday, signaling continued heavy rainfall and sustained flood risks in the region.
