Five individuals have been arrested in connection with a hit and run incident in Cheltenham that left an e-scooter rider with severe injuries. The case took a significant turn on Sunday afternoon when a man in his 20s from Cheltenham voluntarily handed himself in to the police.
The collision occurred late on the night of January 24 at approximately 11 PM on St Paul’s Road near the junction with Folly Lane. The crash involved a white Kia and an e-scooter. The driver of the Kia fled the scene, leaving the injured rider behind.
Emergency services responded swiftly, and the e-scooter rider was taken to Southmead Hospital with serious injuries. An urgent appeal was made in the early hours of Sunday morning, seeking witnesses and any dashcam footage that could assist ongoing investigations.

Following the appeal, the man who surrendered has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody undergoing questioning. Earlier on Sunday morning, four other individuals were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All five remain in custody as the investigation continues.
Police have seized the white Kia vehicle involved for further examination. Temporary road closures were enforced to facilitate the investigation at the scene, but these have since been lifted.
