Five Arrested After Hit and Run Incident in Cheltenham

Five individuals have been arrested subsequent to a hit and run in Cheltenham that left an e-scooter rider seriously injured. The development came after a man in his twenties surrendered to police on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred late Saturday night, January 24, around 11pm on St Paul’s Road near the junction with Folly Lane. Emergency services responded promptly after reports of a collision between a white Kia and an e-scooter. The driver of the car fled the scene without stopping.

The e-scooter rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Police launched an appeal early Sunday morning, requesting witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Following the appeal, a man from Cheltenham handed himself over to authorities and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. In addition, four other people were arrested during the early hours of Sunday on suspicion of assisting an offender. All five remain in police custody as inquiries continue.

Investigators also seized the white Kia involved in the collision for further examination. Road closures were put in place to facilitate the police investigation but have since been lifted.

Authorities continue to appeal for anyone with information related to the incident to contact them online, quoting incident 509 of 24 January.
