First Aircraft Confirmed for Royal International Air Tattoo 2026

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), renowned as the world’s largest military airshow, is just five months away. Kicking off the excitement, the first aircraft for the 2026 event has been officially announced: a Finnish Air Force F-18 Hornet.

RIAT 2026 will celebrate a century of air-to-air combat, showcasing a diverse range of modern and historic fighter aircraft under the theme ‘Fighter Meet.’ This year also marks a milestone—55 years since RIAT’s inaugural event in 1971 at North Weald Airfield, Essex, and 30 years since it was granted Royal status.

To honour these anniversaries, the event has adopted a sub-theme titled ‘Royal Flight,’ featuring a special assembly of aircraft used for VIP transportation.

Peter Reoch, Head of Air Operations, expressed enthusiasm about the reveal: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Finnish Hornet back for RIAT ’26. Its dynamic display perfectly complements our Fighter Meet theme. We’re actively collaborating with air arms worldwide to bring a thrilling lineup of aircraft, and will continue sharing updates as confirmations roll in.”

Ticket demand has soared in recent years, with record-breaking sales for three consecutive events. Already, more than 70,000 tickets have been sold for this year’s show—proceeds that directly benefit the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. The charity focuses on inspiring youth and RAF personnel in STEM, aviation, and space careers.

Hannah Langford, Head of Charity Development, highlighted the broader impact: “Every ticket purchased fuels opportunities for young people aged 5 to 25, especially those who may not have envisioned a future in air, space, or technology. RIAT is more than an aviation spectacle; it’s a catalyst for curiosity, skill development, and future careers.”

With just months to go, aviation enthusiasts are encouraged to secure their tickets soon to join this spectacular celebration of flight and heritage.
