Festive Chocolate Tubs Shrink Again as Prices Vary Across Supermarkets in 2026

As September unfolds, supermarket shelves are once again starting to fill with seasonal favourites, including tubs of Heroes, Celebrations, Roses and Quality Street. These chocolates have become a staple of the festive season, yet shoppers are noticing a familiar trend: the tubs are smaller than in previous years and prices have shifted.

A recent comparison across four leading supermarket chains reveals that the weight of some tubs has decreased compared to 2025, even though cocoa prices have fallen from historic highs. For instance, Cadbury Heroes and Roses tubs have reduced from 550g last year to 475g in 2026, representing roughly a 13% reduction in quantity. Quality Street tubs remain steady at 550g, while Celebrations are consistent at 500g across all stores.

Pricing across Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco shows variation alongside these size changes. At Morrisons, all four chocolate varieties are priced at £7 this year, matching last year’s figures; however, More cardholders can currently purchase these tubs for £4.95. In 2025, Morrisons sold 550g tubs of Quality Street, Heroes and Roses for £7, with Celebrations also at £7 for 500g.

Asda’s 2026 prices have increased slightly, with each chocolate variety priced at £5.72. This follows last year, when Quality Street 550g tubs sold for £4.68 and Roses, Heroes, and Celebrations (all at 550g or 500g) cost £5.24.

Sainsbury’s offers Quality Street 550g tubs and Celebrations at 500g for £6.50 this year, while Heroes and Roses, now at the reduced size of 475g, also cost £6.50. In 2025, all these selections were consistently priced at £7 for 550g or 500g tubs. Shoppers with Nectar cards can benefit from additional discounts this year, bringing prices down to between £3.95 and £4.95 depending on the variety.

Tesco maintains a standard price of £7 for all four chocolate varieties in 2026, with Quality Street and Celebrations at their usual weights of 550g and 500g respectively, and Roses and Heroes reduced to 475g. Tesco Clubcard holders can access further savings: Quality Street and Celebrations at £3.95 each, while Roses and Heroes receive a 25% reduction, priced at £5.25.

Overall, while festive chocolate tubs remain a beloved treat, consumers should be aware that the weight of some favourites has decreased compared to last year. Price promotions and loyalty card offers are available at many supermarkets to help offset these changes, providing shoppers with opportunities to enjoy their seasonal favourites at a reduced cost.
