Father Brown Star Nancy Carroll Makes Bold Hollywood Leap as BBC Series Takes Hiatus

Fans of the beloved BBC detective series Father Brown face a long wait, as the show’s 14th season will not air until early 2027. During this hiatus, one of its stars is making waves with an exciting new project that marks a sharp departure from the cosy mystery genre.

Nancy Carroll, who enchants audiences as the elegant Lady Felicia Montague in Father Brown, is set to join the cast of Clayface, an upcoming DC Universe science fiction horror series. Clayface explores the dark and unsettling world of Matt Hagen, a rising Hollywood star who undergoes a terrifying transformation after a brutal assault leaves his face disfigured. An experimental treatment to restore his appearance backfires horribly, turning him into a monstrous creature consumed by revenge.

This “body-horror” series stands out from typical superhero stories by delving into themes of identity loss and scientific ambition gone awry. While Nancy Carroll’s specific role in Clayface remains a mystery, the show boasts a compelling ensemble cast that includes Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, Max Minghella from The Handmaid’s Tale as John, and Naomi Ackie from the Whitney Houston biopic as biotech scientist Dr. Caitlyn Corr. Additional notable actors such as Eddie Marsan and David Dencik further strengthen the cast.

Clayface is slated to premiere in cinemas on October 23, giving horror and superhero fans something to eagerly anticipate this fall.

Meanwhile, Father Brown fans will have to be patient. The last aired episode earlier this year bid a heartfelt farewell to the housekeeper Brenda Palmer, portrayed by Ruby-May Martinwood, who left to work as parish secretary with Father Osmond Lindsey. Although Brenda’s departure leaves an opening for a potential return, the series will remain off screens until the new season debuts.

In the interim, Father Brown’s previous episodes remain accessible to stream on BBC iPlayer for devoted viewers wishing to revisit the quaint village mysteries and charming characters.
