Father Brown Series 13: Start Date, Cast Highlights, and Surprise Return

Fans of Father Brown have much to celebrate as the series returns for its 13th installment this Friday, 9 January, on BBC One. Mark Williams reprises his role as the shrewd and compassionate crime-solving priest inspired by G.K. Chesterton’s classic character.

This new series marks the surprise return of Mrs. Bridgette McCarthy, played by Sorcha Cusack, who rejoins the show after a four-year absence. Mrs. McCarthy, known for her warmth, sharp wit, and famous homemade strawberry scones, originally appeared from the show’s inception in 2013 through series nine. Though she left to return to Ireland in the storyline, she makes a special comeback in the opening episode of series 13.

The season premieres at 2pm and runs for 45 minutes, airing weekly on Fridays thereafter at the same time on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. This consistent scheduling allows fans to dive into 10 engrossing episodes, the familiar episode count maintained throughout most of the series’ history.
