Father Brown returns to BBC One this Friday with the sixth episode of its thirteenth season, titled The Obedient Wife. After a brief hiatus due to Winter Olympics coverage, the acclaimed murder mystery series steps back into the spotlight, continuing the adventures of BBC’s much-loved crime-solving priest.
Mark Williams reprises his iconic role as Father Brown, inspired by GK Chesterton’s classic novels. The series continues to draw top talent with its rotating guest cast, showcasing familiar faces from British television favorites. Returning after a four-year absence is Sorcha Cusack as the charming Mrs. McCarthy, the parish secretary.
In The Obedient Wife, Father Brown investigates a chilling case when Violet Goodfellow becomes the target of a murderer connected to the death of a senior police officer. The episode features a compelling lineup of guest actors including Naomi Radcliffe, Alex Blake, Marianne Oldham, Rob Ostlere, and Elizabeth Rider.

Naomi Radcliffe takes on the role of Violet Goodfellow. Known for her portrayal of Alison Wakefield on Coronation Street between 1998 and 2000, Naomi’s versatile career also includes roles in Born and Bred, The Visit, The Grand, Broken, and Three Girls.
Alex Blake appears as Gerald, bringing his experience from roles such as Stephen Lamport in The Crown and Bernard in ITV’s Joan. His résumé is enriched by performances in Dangerous Liaisons, Andor, and Chernobyl.
Rob Ostlere plays Michael in this episode. He is recognized for his long-standing role as Arthur Digby on Holby City from 2013 to 2022. Rob’s credits span The Vessel, I Hate Suzie, Patience, Endeavour, and a notable appearance as Waymar Royce in Game of Thrones.
Marianne Oldham portrays Joyce. Her television work includes WPC 56, The Crimson Field, The Living and the Dead, Finding Your Feet, and A Very English Scandal. She also played Ruth Cooper on Holby City and Jane Colter in The Midwich Cuckoos.
Elizabeth Rider rounds out the cast as Carole. Fans may remember her from Line of Duty as DCC Andrea Wise. Elizabeth’s extensive career includes roles in Showtrial, Shadow and Bone, Informer, Waking the Dead, Marchlands, Civvies, The Lakes, Coronation Street, and EastEnders.
