After a brief hiatus due to Winter Olympics coverage, Father Brown returns with a gripping new episode in its 13th season. The latest installment, titled The Obedient Wife, continues the beloved BBC One crime drama inspired by GK Chesterton’s classic novels.
Returning to screens last month with fresh storylines, the series delighted fans with Sorcha Cusack’s comeback as Mrs. McCarthy after a four-year absence. Mark Williams reprised his iconic role as the crime-solving priest, Father Brown, supported by an impressive rotating roster of guest stars.
This episode’s plot centers on Father Brown investigating a chilling case after Violet Goodfellow falls victim to the killer of a senior police officer. The episode boasts a stellar lineup including Naomi Radcliffe, Alex Blake, Marianne Oldham, Rob Ostlere, and Elizabeth Rider.

Mark Williams shared his enthusiasm for the diverse guest casts, saying, “It’s always really flattering that people come and do the show, and we always look forward to seeing people. It’s one of the joys of doing this job. Because we have multiple episodes, we have different actors coming in regularly… I love just watching them as well. Sometimes I forget that I’m supposed to be acting too, because I’m too busy looking at other people!”
Naomi Radcliffe stars as Violet. Known for her role as Alison Wakefield in Coronation Street (1998–2000), Naomi’s credits also include Born and Bred, The Visit, The Grand, and acclaimed dramas like Broken and Three Girls.
Alex Blake plays Gerald. He gained recognition as Stephen Lamport in The Crown and appeared in ITV’s Joan, Dangerous Liaisons, Andor, and the critically acclaimed Chernobyl.
Rob Ostlere portrays Michael. Well known for his role as Arthur Digby on Holby City (2013–2022), Rob’s extensive TV career also includes appearances in I Hate Suzie, Endeavour, and Game of Thrones.
Marianne Oldham features as Joyce. Her previous roles include WPC 56, The Crimson Field, The Living and the Dead, Finding Your Feet, and A Very English Scandal. She also appeared in Holby City and The Midwich Cuckoos.
Elizabeth Rider takes on the role of Carole. Her credits span a wide range of TV dramas, including DCC Andrea Wise in Line of Duty, alongside roles in Showtrial, Shadow and Bone, Informer, and the soap EastEnders where she played Nurse Jill Green.
Father Brown airs on BBC One at 2pm this Friday, promising another engaging episode packed with mystery and top-tier performances.
