Tragedy struck on the B4040 near Minety, Wiltshire, last night when a single-vehicle accident resulted in the death of an Audi driver and left a passenger with serious injuries.
Emergency services responded to the scene after an Audi RS3, travelling northeast from Charlton towards Minety, left the road and collided with a tree. The driver, a man in his 40s from Swindon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, a man in his 50s, sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to hospital for treatment. Wiltshire Police closed the road for several hours while conducting a thorough investigation near South Cerney, just south of the collision site.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have relevant dash cam footage to assist the Serious Collision Investigation Team. Witnesses are asked to contact the team on 01225 694597, quoting log number 298 of August 7.
The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss and hopes for the recovery of the injured passenger.
