George Davies, the visionary behind Next, George at Asda, and Per Una at Marks & Spencer, has turned his creative talents to hospitality with the launch of House of George, a stunning boutique hotel and fine dining destination nestled in the heart of Broadway, Cotswolds.
Housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century limestone building that once served as the local doctor’s surgery, House of George offers ten exquisitely designed bedrooms that blend historic charm with contemporary craftsmanship. The property’s renovation reflects a deep respect for architectural heritage, carefully conserved and enhanced by George and his wife, Arlene, who led the interior design with the expert guidance of Laura Cole of The Cole Collective.
Central to the House of George is Moda, a 30-seat fine dining restaurant headed by acclaimed chef James Wilson, previously from The Newt in Somerset. Moda marks his first solo venture, showcasing a confident, cross-cultural cuisine inspired by his formative experiences in renowned Scandinavian and UK kitchens, including Helsinki’s Gron and Stockholm’s Oaxen Krog.

Moda’s signature offering is a dynamic nine-course tasting menu that evolves with the seasons, spotlighting the finest local produce. This autumn, guests can savour imaginative dishes like Cornish Lobster with Dill and Lobster Butter Sauce, Duck with Boudin Noir and Spices, and a Sea Buckthorn, Earl Grey, and White Chocolate dessert. Not to be missed is James’s signature Beef Tartare, delicately balanced with smoked bone marrow vinaigrette.
For plant-based guests, Moda also presents an innovative vegan nine-course tasting menu featuring wild, foraged ingredients such as chanterelle mushrooms with hispi cabbage, buckwheat with smoked almond, and a plum and fig leaf dessert.
Complementing the tasting menus, Moda offers a weekday set lunch from £40 and an a la carte selection, alongside a hearty Sunday farm-to-table roast, inviting locals and visitors alike to enjoy a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional cuisine.
House of George’s design beautifully marries traditional British craftsmanship with contemporary accents. Custom furnishings from British makers like Rapture & Wright and Cotswold Oak Joinery, curated artwork from The Stratford Gallery, and bespoke glassware by Carrie-Anne Funnell create a refined yet cosy environment.
The welcoming bar area echoes a traditional local pub with exposed Cotswold brickwork, plush red seating, and a cocktail menu inspired by George’s illustrious career. Signature drinks like ‘The 1981’ blend vodka, gin, rum, and tequila with Earl Grey syrup, providing a playful nod to his achievements.
For intimate gatherings, the private dining room, Il Fronte Della Casa, offers an elegant space for up to ten guests, perfect for business meetings, private dinners, or tasting events.
Reflecting on this new venture, George Davies shared, “Opening House of George has been a rewarding new chapter. Bringing fresh life to this remarkable building and creating a place that resonates with Broadway’s spirit has been both a privilege and a joy.”
Arlene adds, “Our goal was to craft a destination where guests feel truly connected—rooted in the beauty and soul of the Cotswolds, with every detail carefully chosen to celebrate this special place.”
Moda’s chef James Wilson expresses his excitement, “I’m proud to bring my culinary vision to the Cotswolds and collaborate with such talented local producers under George and Arlene’s inspiring ownership.”
Moda welcomes bookings daily for breakfast, set lunch, a la carte meals, and tasting menus from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday lunches featuring the comforting farm-to-table roast.
House of George and its innovative restaurant Moda mark an inspiring fusion of creativity, hospitality, and community spirit in the picturesque Cotswolds.
