Family’s Heartfelt Tribute to ‘Kindest’ Man Who Died After Attack in Cheltenham

The family of Jim Davis, a 73-year-old Cheltenham man who tragically passed away following a violent attack, has paid an emotional tribute to his life and character.

Jim was assaulted on Honeybourne Way, Cheltenham, on the evening of Wednesday, April 8. He was critically injured and rushed to hospital, but sadly died on the night of Friday, April 10. The family has described him as a “much-loved storyteller with a natural warmth,” and said their lives will never be the same without him.

In a heartfelt statement shared by Gloucestershire Police, his family said: “We as a family are devastated by the loss of Jimmy. He was a friend to so many, but to me and my family he was a much-loved uncle, brother, and brother-in-law.”

They continued, “Jimmy was one of the kindest people anyone could have the pleasure of meeting — caring, compassionate, and always putting others first. He made sure no one around him ever felt alone. His passion for motorcycles helped him forge many friendships wherever he went.”

“With his natural warmth and gift for storytelling, Jimmy shared his life with great joy, touching countless lives along the way. Our lives will never be the same without him, and we know many others share our sadness.”

Following the incident, two teenage boys aged 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of murder; the 16-year-old is no longer being pursued, while the 17-year-old remains on police bail as inquiries continue.

Gloucestershire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team is conducting the investigation and is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They urge the public to report anything relevant, whether anonymously or directly.

Jim Davis’s family and the community mourn the loss of a kind soul whose memory will live on through those who knew and loved him.
