The family of Jim Davis, a 73-year-old man who tragically died following a serious assault in Cheltenham, has expressed a touching tribute to his memory. Jim was remembered as a much-loved storyteller with a warm and caring nature.
On the evening of Wednesday, April 8, Jim was punched in the face during an incident on Honeybourne Way and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he sadly passed away late on Friday, April 10.
In a heartfelt statement shared by Gloucestershire Police, Jim’s family described him as “one of the kindest people” they had ever met. They recalled his compassion, generosity, and the unique way he made everyone around him feel valued and never alone.

“Jimmy was a friend to many, and to us, he was a beloved uncle, brother, and brother-in-law,” the family said. “His love for motorcycles connected him with countless friends, and his natural warmth and storytelling brought joy to all who knew him. Our lives will never be the same without him.”
Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of murder soon after the incident. The 16-year-old has since been released without further action, while the 17-year-old remains on police bail as investigations continue.
Gloucestershire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team is still appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist with the inquiry.
