During recent Trading Standards raids in the Gloucester area, authorities seized over 500 counterfeit ‘New Era’ NFL hats featuring American Football team logos. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, June 2, uncovered an online counterfeit scam that also involved the confiscation of around 300 additional items such as lanyards and license plates. The total estimated value of these seized goods is approximately £13,000.
Warrants were executed at two properties located in Kingsway and Churchdown, following reports of fake merchandise being sold online. Inspections were also carried out at lock-up units throughout Gloucester.
Gloucestershire County Council confirmed that investigations into the counterfeit goods are ongoing. A council spokesperson emphasized the risks, stating, “Counterfeit goods can be poor quality and may not meet safety standards. They harm legitimate businesses and negatively affect the wider economy.”

Councillor Paul Hodgkinson, the cabinet member for Trading Standards, highlighted the importance of the operation: “This action demonstrates our ongoing commitment to combating counterfeit sales in Gloucestershire. Such illegal activity undermines honest businesses, damages consumer trust, and results in lost tax revenue that funds essential public services. Our Trading Standards team is dedicated to disrupting these activities, protecting residents, and promoting fair trade across the county.”
The council urges anyone with information related to the sale of suspected counterfeit goods to report it to Trading Standards to help support continued enforcement efforts.
