Extra Overnight Closure Announced for A38 Near Gloucester

Motorists traveling south of Gloucester will face an additional full overnight closure on a busy stretch of the A38 next week due to ongoing roadworks. Since late spring, the B4008 Bristol Road has been closed at the A38 flyover to create a new junction for the Hunts Grove estate, causing months of disruption.

Previously, overnight closures forced drivers onto a 44-mile official diversion route, leading to frustration among commuters. Developer Crest Nicholson confirms that work on the Hunts Grove access remains on schedule to finish by Friday, December 19, with the road reopening the following day.

However, unforeseen but essential additions to the project have extended the schedule. These include upgrading traffic light cabling, improving drainage, reinforcing foundations, and now making necessary alterations to the central reservation.

To complete this safely without delaying the reopening, Crest Nicholson, in consultation with Gloucestershire County Council Highways and National Highways, has planned a night closure of the A38 in both directions between Cross Keys and Waterwells roundabouts. This closure will occur from 11 pm on Tuesday, November 25, until 5 am on Wednesday, November 26.

This new closure is in addition to previously announced night works scheduled for the final resurfacing from Monday, December 8 to Friday, December 12, between 8 pm and 6 am, with contingency dates on Monday, December 15, and Tuesday, December 16, during the same hours.

Diversion routes will be clearly signposted throughout the works, and drivers are urged to follow these directions and avoid smaller roads. Pound Lane and Church Lane in Hardwicke will feature manned gates restricting access to residents only. Businesses at Quedgeley West Business Park will be provided with traffic escort arrangements.

Crest Nicholson acknowledges the inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their continued patience as the project nears completion.
