Cheltenham Town defender Scot Bennett is poised to move on loan to National League South side Weston-super-Mare until the end of the season. The 35-year-old, who previously played for Exeter City and Notts County, has not featured for Cheltenham under Steve Cotterill since their 6-2 FA Cup victory over Buxton on December 6, where he was substituted at half-time.
Since then, the centre-back position alongside captain James Wilson has been occupied by Robbie Cundy. Bennett, who joined Cheltenham from Newport County in the summer of 2024, reunited with his former manager Michael Flynn. Last season, Bennett was appointed captain and made 29 appearances, triggering a contract extension clause.
This season, he has added nine more appearances following recovery from knee surgery, but has not played in League Two since Cheltenham’s loss to Crawley Town on September 13, Flynn’s penultimate game in charge. Bennett’s loan move sees him join a Weston-super-Mare squad currently placed fifth in the National League South under manager Scott Rogers.
