EXCLUSIVE: Cheltenham Town Set to Sign MK Dons Defender Joe Tomlinson

Cheltenham Town are on the verge of securing the signing of MK Dons full-back Joe Tomlinson, marking their fourth addition this summer.

The 26-year-old defender is expected to join fellow new recruit Pierce Sweeney, strengthening Steve Cotterill’s squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Tomlinson is known for his proficiency with both feet and began his career in the youth setups at Southampton and Yeovil Town before moving to Brighton at 17. He gained valuable senior experience during a loan spell at Bognor Regis Town.

Following his time at Brighton, Tomlinson had stints with Hungerford Town and Eastleigh, which paved the way for a three-year contract with Peterborough United in 2021. During this period, he also went on loan to his hometown club, Swindon Town, and made five appearances in the Championship with Peterborough.

In 2023, Tomlinson signed with MK Dons and played an integral part in their promotion to League One, featuring in 98 League Two matches across three seasons at Stadium MK.

His arrival will add depth to Cheltenham’s defense alongside summer signings Pierce Sweeney, Jordan Shipley, and Charlie McCann as the club prepares to return to pre-season training on Wednesday.
