Ex-Shire Hall Chiefs Honored as Aldermen in Gloucestershire

At a special gathering on July 17, Gloucestershire County Council paid tribute to 31 former councillors for their longstanding commitment and significant contributions to the region. Chairman Steve Robinson (L, Nailsworth) underscored the vital role these individuals have played, stating, “They have provided considerable support to both the council and their residents over many years.”

The ceremony celebrated retiring and non-returning members, who were presented with certificates of appreciation and framed prints depicting Gloucester Shire Hall as tokens of gratitude for their service.

Among those honored, several former councillors were appointed aldermen — an honorary title recognizing their exceptional past contributions. The new aldermen include Tim Harman (C, Lansdown and Park, 16 years), Mark Hawthorne (C, Quedgeley, 16 years, including time as council leader), Graham Morgan (L, Cinderford, 24 years, including tenure as chairman), and Alan Preest (C, Lydney, 16 years, also a past chairman).

Other distinguished aldermen appointed include Lynden Stowe (C, Campden-Vale, 16 years), Brian Tipper (C, Cam Valley, 16 years), Pam Tracey (C, Hempsted and Westgate, 20 years), Robert Vines (C, Brockworth, 20 years), and Kathy Williams (C, Longlevens, 20 years).

The council also extended formal thanks to retiring and non-returning councillors from various divisions, acknowledging their dedicated service and the positive impact they have made throughout their tenures.

As Gloucestershire moves forward, the council’s recognition of its former members reinforces the strong foundation built through years of public service and commitment to community welfare.
