Ex-Radio One DJ Tim Westwood Granted Bail Amid Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Former BBC Radio One DJ Tim Westwood has been granted conditional bail following his court appearance on serious charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 68-year-old faces allegations involving seven women, including multiple counts of indecent assault dating back to the 1980s and 1990s. Among the accusations are three indecent assaults reportedly occurring at BBC studios during the 1990s. Westwood is also alleged to have raped a woman at a London hotel in 1996 and sexually assaulted another woman at a London music festival approximately two decades later.

Westwood appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 10, dressed in a dark grey shirt. He spoke only to confirm his personal details and was not required to enter pleas for any of the charges at this stage.

Since the investigation commenced, Westwood has participated in five voluntary police interviews. He faces a total of four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault.

The charges encompass incidents from the 1980s through to the 2010s, including indecent assaults in London and sexual offences alleged to have occurred at a nightclub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in 2010.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring granted bail on the condition that Westwood must not contact any prosecution witnesses. The next court hearing is scheduled for December 8 at Southwark Crown Court.
