Stroud District Council has announced an extraordinary meeting next month to discuss the future of the beloved Stratford Park Lido, aiming to reopen the historic outdoor swimming pool in time for this summer season.
The Lido, a cherished landmark in Stroud for nearly 90 years, faced uncertainty after the council revealed in March that approximately £5 million of essential repairs are required before it can reopen. Initially, the council stated that all repairs would need to be completed at once, making a 2026 reopening impossible.
However, following strong community feedback, the council revisited their approach, seeking ways to expedite repairs and bring the Lido back into operation this summer. Over £200,000 has already been allocated toward repair and maintenance work.

The key decision now rests with Stroud District Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee, which must approve a larger budget for the necessary works. Committee Chair and Council Leader Chloe Turner expressed her commitment: “We recognize how important the Lido is to our community. While we have committed £200,000 for essential repairs, any additional costs require formal consideration. I appreciate the efforts of council staff and the Lido Working Group to ensure swimmers can safely enjoy the pool this summer.”
Due to the urgency, an extraordinary committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026—earlier than the regular scheduled session on June 18. The agenda and supporting documents will be published on Tuesday, May 26 and will be accessible online.
While no motions or public questions can be raised during this special meeting, the public may observe the proceedings in person at the council’s Ebley Mill headquarters or via a live online stream.
A detailed, costed repair plan will accompany the committee papers released next week, providing transparency on the proposed path to reopening the iconic Lido.
