Ellie Goulding’s Battle with Post-Natal Depression

Ellie Goulding recently opened up about her struggle with post-natal depression following the birth of her son in April 2021. The singer revealed that nature played a significant role in her recovery, stating that walks in the countryside helped to alleviate the numbness and bring life back to her. Not only that, but a big cuddle with her son and research about the condition also offered some relief.

The NHS reports that post-natal depression affects one in 10 women within a year of giving birth. While it’s common for women to experience the “baby blues” after childbirth, symptoms of post-natal depression include persistent feelings of low mood or sadness, sleep disturbances, difficulty bonding with the baby, and a tendency to withdraw from others.

Treatment for post-natal depression may involve antidepressants, psychological therapy, and self-help advice. Support from GPs and midwives is also instrumental in helping individuals manage the condition.

In addition to her post-natal depression, Goulding also discussed her lifelong struggle with anxiety, attributing it to her tumultuous upbringing and her parents' divorce. Nature and walks in the countryside have been her coping mechanisms since childhood, providing her with an escape from the chaos and dysfunction she experienced.

Ellie Goulding’s candid revelation sheds light on the importance of seeking support and finding solace in nature when battling mental health issues.
