Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are grieving the loss of their cherished rescue dog, Augie. The beloved Beagle-Chihuahua mix, who joined their family over a decade ago, passed away on May 15.
Ellen paid tribute to Augie on Instagram on May 16, sharing touching photos of the dog enjoying peaceful moments at home. She wrote, “We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday. We rescued him 12 years ago, and he was so grateful. He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him.”
This sad news comes amid a significant transition for the couple. After stepping away from the spotlight—Ellen concluded her iconic talk show in May last year, and Portia, known for her roles in Ally McBeal and Arrested Development, left acting to focus on her art curation and publishing business, General Public—they relocated to the British countryside. The duo settled in the picturesque Cotswolds, where they have been enjoying a quieter life.

Recently, Ellen and Portia were spotted at The Farmer’s Dog, a pub owned by Jeremy Clarkson, star of Clarkson’s Farm, in their new community. Amid heavy weather in the region, reports surfaced that their expansive 43-acre Cotswold property had been affected by flooding caused by Storm Bert. However, Ellen quickly dispelled these rumors, assuring fans that their farmhouse remained safe and dry.
Despite the sorrow of losing Augie, Ellen continues to celebrate her life with Portia. Marking 20 years together, Ellen shared a heartfelt message alongside a selfie of the couple amid England’s serene countryside: “You are the best thing that ever happened in my life. You take care of me. You help me see the good in everything. You help to guide me and pick me up when I feel off or down. You are a beautiful soul that I am so very grateful to have as a partner to navigate this crazy life with.”
As they embrace this new chapter in the UK, Ellen and Portia’s bond remains strong, even in the face of loss.
