Several events scheduled at Gloucester Guildhall have been postponed or relocated due to necessary maintenance work. The historic venue, located in Eastgate Street, is a central cultural hub featuring a 400-capacity main hall, an independent 75-seat cinema, and a welcoming café-bar.
Gloucester City Council recently discovered an issue in the Guildhall’s ballroom during routine annual maintenance checks, leading to the rescheduling of some events until repairs are completed.
Among the affected is American rock band Electric Six, originally set to perform at the Guildhall on June 16. The concert has now been moved to the Subscription Rooms in Stroud on the same date, with all tickets for the Gloucester gig transferable to the new venue.

A council spokesperson explained: “Our annual maintenance checks identified necessary work in the Guildhall ballroom, resulting in the temporary rescheduling of events until these repairs are finished.”
Constructed between 1890 and 1892, Gloucester Guildhall was previously home to Sir Thomas Rich’s School and served as offices for the town clerk, accountant, and surveyor, alongside council chambers, committee rooms, and the mayor’s parlour. It also hosted the annual Mayor’s Ball for many years.
Between 1985 and 1988, the building was refurbished into an arts centre, incorporating changes that enhanced its suitability for cultural activities. The council chamber was transformed into the Chamber Cinema, with stage elements crafted from repurposed wooden doors from within the building.
Today, Gloucester Guildhall supports a vibrant cultural scene with over 300 events, workshops, and classes annually, remaining a cornerstone of the city’s arts community.
