Eggs Thrown Inside Gloucester LGBTQ+ Venue in Suspected Hate Crime

An investigation is underway after three teenagers allegedly threw eggs at patrons inside Proud, an LGBTQ+ café-bar in Kings Square, Gloucester. The incident, which took place on the evening of February 4, is being treated as a suspected homophobic hate crime by Gloucestershire Police.

According to police reports, the eggs struck several individuals inside the venue and caused damage to a laptop. Officers are now working to identify two of the youths involved, having released CCTV images on March 26 to aid public assistance.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police stated, “We are appealing to anyone who recognizes these children to come forward. This incident targeted people because of their sexual orientation and is a serious matter.”

Hate crimes and incidents are defined as offences motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person’s race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Authorities encourage victims and witnesses to report such incidents confidentially and securely online.

Proud Gloucester announced its permanent closure on March 1, citing the challenging hospitality environment and other pressures that have affected many similar local venues. The statement reflected pride in the community space they created over the past five months and expressed regret over having to close their doors.
