The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that millions of people could receive a £150 discount on their energy bills this winter via the Warm Home Discount scheme. This one-time payment is automatically applied to the electricity bills of eligible households to help ease the financial burden during colder months when energy costs often rise.
This year, eligibility for the Warm Home Discount has expanded, with an additional 2.7 million people now qualifying due to relaxed criteria. Previously, the scheme was mainly limited to those receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit in England and Wales. Now, the eligibility also includes individuals on low incomes who meet specific requirements.
For residents in England and Wales, the discount applies if you receive the Guarantee Credit of Pension Credit or fall under certain low-income thresholds. Meanwhile, in Scotland, eligibility includes those receiving Guarantee Credit Pension Credit or individuals on low income who meet their energy supplier’s criteria.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the DWP reminded the public about this important support, stating: “Have you heard about the Warm Home Discount Scheme? If you’re eligible, the £150 credit will be automatically applied to your electricity account.” The department also cautioned against scams, warning: “If you get a call asking you to apply for the discount, it’s a scam.”
The scheme is supported by 28 energy suppliers participating nationwide, further ensuring that the credit reaches those most in need during the challenging winter period.
