Dursley Church of England Primary Academy Shines Brightly With Glowing Ofsted Report

Dursley Church of England Primary Academy has received a shining Ofsted report, embodying its motto of “together shine brightly.” The school’s nurturing and ambitious environment has been commended by inspectors, who recognized the school’s inclusive and supportive culture.

The academy, which is part of the Diocese of Gloucester Academies Trust and caters to 258 pupils, was lauded for its quality of education, behavior and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. The report highlighted the school’s high expectations for pupils, their safety and confidence, and the positive impact of the revised curriculum.

The nurturing atmosphere extends beyond the classroom, with pupils taking on responsibilities and getting involved in charitable activities. Notably, they raised funds for the Wildlife Trust and adopted three animals, emphasizing the school’s community spirit and engagement with real-world issues.

Under the leadership of headteacher Heather Gregory, the school has undergone curriculum changes to enhance learning, resulting in improved pupil knowledge and understanding. Reading is a strong focus, with expert staff ensuring that pupils develop fluency and a love for reading.

The report also acknowledged effective teaching strategies, especially in mathematics, while highlighting the school’s inclusive support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. However, it indicated areas for improvement, particularly in assessment and handwriting basics.

Personal development and wellbeing are central to the school’s ethos, with a comprehensive programme designed to develop pupils beyond academics. The school was praised for its leadership, support, and ambitious vision for every pupil.

While the report highlighted areas for improvement, it depicted a vibrant, caring school community on an upward trajectory—one where pupils are “attentive and engaged in their learning” and where both staff and students are clearly living up to the motto: “Together shine brightly.”

Heather Gregory, headteacher, expressed immense pride in the school’s journey and thanked everyone for their continued support in helping the students shine.
