Drivers Risk £1,000 Fine for Ignoring A417 Closure Near Gloucester

Drivers attempting to circumvent the closure on the A417 near Gloucester face fines of up to £1,000. The section of the A417 at Maisemore has been shut since Monday, February 16, due to significant flooding between the A40 and The Rudge.

While most motorists have complied with the diversion signs, Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways department has reported that some drivers continue to ignore the closure. Those caught driving through the flooded area risk prosecution and substantial fines.

The council emphasizes the importance of adhering to road closure signs for safety reasons and appreciates the cooperation of the majority of drivers. Additional road closures remain in effect across the county as the council works to manage the flooding situation.
