A woman in her seventies tragically lost her life after a head-on collision near the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire border on June 30. The accident occurred on the B4696 between Brinkworth Road and Lydiard Plain, close to Royal Wootton Bassett.
According to police reports, the woman was driving an orange Peugeot 107 heading northbound when it collided with a black Vauxhall Astra traveling southbound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 43-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Astra sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. He has since been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while unfit through drink or drugs. A teenage female passenger in the Vauxhall was also injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

Following the crash, the road was temporarily closed but has since reopened. Due to previous police involvement with the suspect, a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
