A 28-year-old man from Tetbury faces multiple charges after evading police in the early hours of Sunday, December 14. The incident began in Cirencester, where officers attempted to stop a speeding vehicle suspected of drink driving.
According to Cotswold police, officers stationed at the Brewery car park in Cirencester at 3:30 a.m. were engaging with club-goers promoting responsible behavior when the group returned—not on foot, but by car. Suspecting intoxication, the officers signaled the driver to stop, but the vehicle sped away toward Tetbury.
Specially trained police units anticipated the car’s arrival and intercepted it in Tetbury shortly after. Despite attempts to stop, the driver initially failed to comply, forcing officers to box in the car to safely end the pursuit.

The driver was arrested on site and subsequently charged with drink driving, failing to stop for police, and dangerous driving. He is scheduled to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on February 10.
In a public statement on Facebook, police remarked, “We believe taking a taxi or Uber from Cirencester to Tetbury would have cost around £30—roughly £7–8 per person for four occupants—far less than the legal and financial consequences the driver now faces.”
This incident underscores the risks and serious repercussions of drink driving and evading law enforcement. Police continue to encourage responsible choices to ensure the safety of all road users.
