Dr Michael Mosley’s widow, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, has shared what she calls the “world’s healthiest” diet—a Mediterranean-style plan praised for its effectiveness in weight loss and overall wellness.
Following in the footsteps of the renowned health expert, Clare and their son, Dr Jack Mosley, have co-authored three nutrition guides: The Fast800 Favourites, Eating Together, and Food Noise. Dr Michael Mosley gained wide acclaim for his pioneering work on intermittent fasting diets such as the 5:2 and Fast 800 methods.
Tragically, Dr Mosley passed away in June 2024 during a visit to the Greek island of Symi. Since then, Clare has spoken openly about maintaining health and managing weight, acknowledging the challenges many face amid common myths. In a recent interview with Good Housekeeping UK, she emphasized the benefits of rapid weight loss, explaining, “Rapid weight loss is very effective because you see quick results, which keeps you motivated and helps maintain long-term success.”

At the heart of the diet is a Mediterranean-style approach, which Clare describes as “less pasta and pizza” but focuses heavily on nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, seeds, pulses, and generous amounts of olive oil, prized for its anti-inflammatory effects. The diet includes moderate portions of meat and dairy, avoiding excess.
The Mediterranean diet has long been celebrated for its health benefits, emphasizing whole foods and minimizing processed items. Studies highlight that populations in Mediterranean regions often enjoy lower rates of chronic diseases compared to those consuming a typical Western or “standard American” diet.
The simplicity and effectiveness of this diet have gained widespread attention. In 2024, Tracey Parker, nutrition lead at the British Heart Foundation, outlined a practical Mediterranean-style meal plan in The Telegraph: Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and nuts for breakfast; lentil soup and wholegrain bread for lunch; baked salmon with brown rice and vegetables for dinner; plus snacks like fruit, nuts, vegetables, or hummus.
Dr Clare Bailey Mosley’s advocacy reinforces the Mediterranean diet not only as a pathway to weight loss but as a sustainable lifestyle choice promoting lasting health and wellbeing.
