Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, the widow of renowned health expert Dr Michael Mosley, has unveiled what she calls the “world’s healthiest” diet—a Mediterranean-inspired eating plan that has helped her family maintain wellness and shed pounds effectively.
Dr Clare, a retired GP, alongside their son Dr Jack Mosley, has co-authored three popular nutritional guides: The Fast800 Favourites, Eating Together, and Food Noise. These works continue the legacy of Dr Michael Mosley, who was widely recognized for popularizing intermittent fasting and diets such as the 5:2 and Fast 800 regimes before his untimely passing in June 2024.
Speaking candidly about weight loss challenges during an interview with Good Housekeeping UK, Clare emphasized the benefits of rapid weight loss. “Rapid weight loss is a very effective way of doing it because you see the results quickly, don’t get bored, and if you do it rapid, you’re more likely to keep the weight off,” she explained. Her approach is backed by research and centers around a Mediterranean-style diet, which emphasizes whole foods and balanced nutrition.

Clare described the diet as rich in fruits, vegetables, seeds, pulses, and plentiful olive oil—known for its anti-inflammatory properties—along with moderate amounts of meat and dairy. “It’s less pasta and pizza, but overall, it’s a very healthy diet that works worldwide. Pretty much the world’s healthiest diet,” she added.
The Mediterranean diet has long been celebrated for its health benefits, including lowered risks of chronic diseases. It encourages ample consumption of fresh produce, whole grains, healthy fats, and limited processed foods. Research suggests that traditional Mediterranean regions like Italy and Greece have populations with notably better health outcomes compared to those consuming more typical Western diets.
The approach continues to gain traction among nutrition experts. For instance, Tracey Parker, nutrition lead at the British Heart Foundation, recently endorsed the diet and offered simple meal suggestions: Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts for breakfast, lentil soup with wholegrain bread for lunch, baked salmon with brown rice and vegetables for dinner, and wholesome snacks like fruit, nuts, vegetables, or hummus.
Together, the Mosley family’s advocacy for this Mediterranean-based eating plan reaffirms its status as a practical, effective, and enjoyable way to achieve weight loss and maintain overall health.
