Dr Michael Mosley’s Son Reflects on Public Reaction Following His Father’s Tragic Passing

Dr Michael Mosley’s son, Dr Jack Mosley, has expressed surprise at the unexpected outpouring of public admiration for his late father following his death on the Greek island of Symi in June 2024. The 67-year-old health expert went missing during a walk and was discovered more than two miles from a private resort where he had been staying with his wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley.

Michael Mosley was internationally recognized for popularizing the 5:2 diet and advancing intermittent fasting, which helped tens of thousands achieve significant weight loss and better metabolic health. His expertise earned him appearances on renowned television programs such as The One Show, Horizon, and Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.

Jack Mosley shared that strangers often approach him to share how profoundly his father’s work has impacted their lives. He credits his parents’ passion and dedication as a major inspiration for his own medical career and his decision to take the helm of the Fast800 programme originally developed by Michael.

“Their passion for improving metabolic health has made a meaningful difference to many, and I continue to be amazed when people tell me how much weight they’ve lost thanks to my dad’s work,” said Jack.

The Fast800 Online Programme offers a comprehensive lifestyle plan based on Michael Mosley’s research. It includes three meal options: the “Very Fast 800” — an 800-calorie daily intake designed for rapid weight loss over 12 weeks; the 5:2 intermittent fasting approach; and a Mediterranean-style eating plan designed for long-term health.

In addition to nutrition, the programme incorporates structured exercise routines—combining high-intensity interval training and resistance workouts—and educational content explaining the science of weight loss and metabolic health.

Jack elaborated, “This plan stems from research showing that losing weight rapidly with an 800-calorie diet can reverse type 2 diabetes, a possibility previously thought unattainable. Keeping off 10 kilograms could maintain diabetes remission.”

He added that the programme supports gradual lifestyle changes too, through fasting methods like the 5:2 diet, popularized by his father. It also promotes holistic wellness by integrating exercise, mindful practices, and community support—helping participants stay motivated alongside others with similar goals.

Through this ongoing work, Dr Jack Mosley continues to honour his father’s legacy by empowering people worldwide to improve their health and wellbeing.
