Around 25 black wheelie bins have been stolen from the cemetery and crematorium in Coney Hill, Gloucester, prompting Gloucester City Council to seek the public’s help in identifying the culprits.
CCTV footage captured the offenders emptying the bins before taking them away. This brazen theft has caused outrage among city officials and community members alike.
Deputy council leader Declan Wilson condemned the crime, stating: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those responsible should be ashamed. We will take every possible step to find them and ensure they are held accountable. This isn’t just theft — it’s a profound disrespect for a place that deserves dignity.”

Councillor Tracy Millard, representing Coney Hill, expressed shock at the incident and the disregard shown to the community and those resting there. She also voiced concerns that charging for replacement bins could lead to more such incidents, urging a reconsideration of the policy.
Council leader Jeremy Hilton described the theft as “immoral,” questioning the logic of stealing so many bins. “Who wants 25 bins in their back garden?” he asked. The council encourages anyone with information to contact them at 01452 396396 or via [email protected].
A council spokesperson added: “Help us protect our community spaces — please share this post and report any information you have as soon as possible.”
