Dom Joly Captures Tent Fire in Cheltenham Amid Arson Investigation

An ongoing investigation is underway after a tent fire in Cheltenham, believed to be an arson attack, was captured on video by comedian and writer Dom Joly. The incident occurred at around 8:20 pm on Thursday, March 19, in a local park.

Joly, a Cheltenham resident, filmed the scene showing intense flames beneath a large tree, describing the night as “crazy.” He expressed shock and concern over the apparent deliberate act, stating, “Someone had, I think, poured petrol on the tent and then set them on fire. What kind of person are you when you’re setting fire to homeless people’s tents?”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported by the police or fire services. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, extinguishing the blaze with one fire engine. They confirmed they arrived at Clarence Square at 8:18 pm and controlled the fire by 9:08 pm.
