Doctor Reveals Eight Common Foods That Can Slow Down Ageing

Ageing is inevitable, but the costly and often temporary solutions like Botox, fillers, and supplements don’t have to be the only way to fight the signs of getting older. According to Harvard-trained Dr. Saurabh Sethi, nature provides simple, affordable alternatives found right in your kitchen that can help slow down the ageing process.

Dr. Sethi emphasizes eating eight key foods backed by science for their anti-ageing properties. He explains, “If you want to age slower, include these in your diet.” First on the list is extra virgin olive oil, rich in anti-ageing fats that support overall health. Fatty fish such as salmon and sardines provide inflammation-reducing omega-3 fatty acids, essential for maintaining youthful vitality.

Berries—including blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and goji berries—offer some of the strongest brain-protecting polyphenols. Green tea is recommended for its powerful antioxidant protection, while nuts like walnuts, almonds, and pistachios supply heart-healthy fats that sustain wellbeing.

For gut health and immune support, Dr. Sethi suggests incorporating fermented foods like yogurt or kefir. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower activate detox pathways crucial for cellular renewal. Rounding out the list is black coffee, credited with reducing mortality risk when consumed in moderation.

“These are not myths,” Dr. Sethi says. “Each of these foods is backed by research connecting them to improved longevity, metabolic health, skin appearance, and digestion.”

In addition, Dr. Sethi previously highlighted eggs as a superfood that helps mitigate blue light exposure’s effects. Consuming eggs daily for two weeks not only supports eye health but also benefits the brain, hair, skin, and nails—key indicators of vibrant, youthful ageing.
