Disgusting Gloucester Takeaway Prosecuted Over ‘Dangerous’ Hygiene Failings

A popular takeaway in Gloucester has been prosecuted following shocking hygiene violations, including a severe mouse infestation and appalling food preparation conditions. Good Wok, located on Bristol Road, was ordered to pay over £2,000 in fines, while its parent company, Good Wok Mings Ltd, was fined nearly £15,000, both sums covering victim surcharges and legal costs.

Lili Wang, 44, the manager of Good Wok, pleaded guilty to seven charges on behalf of herself and the business. These charges included failing to implement adequate pest control measures, neglecting cleanliness and proper maintenance of the premises, not adhering to food hygiene standards, and improperly storing raw and ready-to-eat foods.

The case was brought forward by Gloucester City Council after Environmental Health Officers shut down the takeaway in March last year. Inspectors discovered a live mouse inside a food container, gnawed food storage bags, utensils placed beside mouse droppings, and traps still containing dead mice. The kitchen was filthy, and Wang, who resided above the takeaway, demonstrated a blatant disregard for basic hygiene practices.

Councillor Sebastian Field, Gloucester City Council’s cabinet member for Environment, described the conditions as among the worst his inspectors have ever witnessed. He emphasized the serious health risks posed by rodents, which can transmit deadly diseases and viruses. “While we strive to support business owners in maintaining safe operations, in this instance, Ms Wang’s failure to address these hazards resulted in dangerously unhygienic conditions for customers.”
