Discover Dr Foster: Gloucester’s Charming Waterfront Pub in a Historic Warehouse

Few things compare to enjoying a refreshing drink by the waterfront on a sunny day, and Dr Foster in Gloucester offers exactly that experience. Nestled inside the beautifully restored Kimberley Warehouse, this pub has become a standout destination, earning a spot among the top three pubs in Gloucestershire at the prestigious National Pub and Bar Awards for the second year running.

Having reopened under new management in July 2024 after a full renovation, Dr Foster blends historic charm with a fresh, inviting ambiance. The iconic red-brick exterior of Kimberley Warehouse looks stunning in the sunlight, setting the tone for a memorable visit.

Though my midweek visit found the pub relatively quiet due to intermittent rain, I could easily imagine it bustling with life on a warmer day. Inside, the main bar welcomes guests with a lively, yet relaxed atmosphere. Just beyond, the airy conservatory delights with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the waterfront right to your table while keeping you sheltered from the elements.

Dr Foster presents a carefully curated selection of local drinks on tap, including Cheltenham’s own Deya Brewery Steady Rolling Man lager (£7.20 per pint) and Dunkertons craft cider (£6.80 per pint). The pub’s gastro-pub style shines through not only in its drinks but also its all-day brunch menu, featuring dishes like creamy avocado toast (£10.20), fluffy buttermilk pancakes (£11), and a hearty full fry-up (£15) served until 5 pm.

The welcoming vibe extends beyond food and drink. Family friendly and cozy, Dr Foster offers board games for guests to enjoy, plus stylish decor with framed artworks, lush plants, and comfortable sofa-bench seating that invites lingering conversations. The friendly bar staff are happy to share recommendations and serve with a smile, adding to the warm atmosphere.

Dr Foster perfectly captures the spirit of Gloucester Docks – historic, vibrant, and welcoming. It’s clear why this pub is fast gaining a loyal local following and earning accolades throughout Gloucestershire. Whether you visit for a casual pint, a leisurely brunch, or to soak up waterside views, Dr Foster promises an exceptional experience worth returning for.
