Detectives Granted Extended Time to Question Gloucester Murder Suspect

Police have been granted additional time to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder following a stabbing incident in Gloucester. Emergency services responded to reports of multiple stabbings at a Bedford Street residence around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

Three men were rushed to hospital with stab wounds. Tragically, a man in his 50s from Gloucester succumbed to his injuries around midday. The two other victims are recovering from wounds that are not life-threatening. A forensic post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place, while officers continue their investigation at the scene.

The suspect, a man in his 30s, was apprehended by armed officers approximately 30 minutes after the incident on Chequer’s Road. Following medical treatment, he was released from hospital and taken into police custody. Detectives have been authorized to extend their questioning of the suspect until the morning of Friday, May 30. Bedford Street remains closed as the investigation progresses.

Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson addressed community concerns, stating: “We recognize how distressing this event has been for our community. The incident was contained within one address, and there is no ongoing threat to the wider public. Dedicated officers are investigating thoroughly, and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. Our Neighbourhood Policing Team will conduct high-visibility patrols throughout Gloucester. Residents are encouraged to approach officers if they have any concerns.”

The Major Crime Investigation Team continues to probe the circumstances of the stabbing. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
